Renaissance (c. 1400 – 1600)
Florence rediscovered Vitruvius and decided buildings should obey the laws of mathematics. The Renaissance treated architecture as a humanist project — proportion, perspective, the dignified scale of the human body. The result was a confidence so total it produced both St. Peter’s Basilica and the entire skyline of Venice.
