Modern (c. 1800 – present)
Iron, glass, concrete, electricity. The architecture of the last 200 years was the first to be built for buildings that did not yet exist — train stations for trains nobody had seen, skyscrapers for cities that hadn’t grown that tall, museums for art the public had never been allowed to look at. The result is an era of architectural experiments.
